New work from Ishbel Murray exploring the contrived or orderly aspect of nature in public spaces through highly coloured landscape work and restricted palate small still life work.

In restricting the choice of subject matter to the everyday and ordinary - a cup and saucer, a city park or a holiday postcard study the images here are testing the principle that ‘familarity encourages meditation’. There are no people walking in the park, having tea, making photocopies  or waiting for the bus - the gaze of the viewer provides the human element. Realism and abstraction combine so that the focus is on composition, colour, form - ‘shadows and reflections’.
